Hebrew

Beginning with letter recognition for our youngest children, this program leads them through phonetic decoding, reading comprehension and writing. Using the Aleph Champ Hebrew Reading system, age appropriate textbooks and workbooks will be completed throughout the year. Our goal is that every child be fluent and comfortable reading the basic Prayers in the Prayer Book.

Torah (Bible) and Jewish History

The children are introduced to the characters and stories found in the Torah (Five Books of Moses). They are given an overview of  Jewish History, starting from Creation to the Giving of the Torah, and leading to our modern times.

Holidays

Hands-on lessons on each Jewish holiday will fill the calendar as we proceed from Rosh Hashanah and the High Holidays through the holiday of Shavuot. The students will have a deeper understanding of each holiday, traditions and customs. Chabad of Summerlin Hebrew School will also host holiday celebrations for our students and their families.

Jewish Values and Ethics

Students will read and discuss stories and case scenarios that have practical application to our every day life. They will understand that our religion is based on G‑d given set of values and morals and that the “norm” is not always what is right.

Mitzvot: Why We Do What We Do

Why do women light Shabbat candles? What do our prayers mean? What makes food “Kosher?” Why do we have a Mezuzah on our doors? This class will teach basic Mitzvot to the younger grades and provide insightful meaning of more complex Mitzvot to the older grades.

Extra Curricular & Chai 5 Chessed Club

Chabad of Summerlin Hebrew School will offer a variety of extra curricular activities such as special guests, Friday night dinners, field trips and contests. Once a month after Hebrew School, our students will join children from across the Vegas Valley to participate in doing a Mitzvah Project, followed by an exciting trip or activity. These events will allow our students to experience Judaism in its entirety, both in and out of the classroom. More details will follow once the school year begins.
